How I handle data.

This is a personal site. It collects very little, and nothing goes to Google unless you allow it.

Who I am

This site is published by Mark Owen Burson, Seattle, Washington, USA. For anything on this page, email contact@burson.email.

What the site collects

Technical data. The site is served by Cloudflare, Inc. (USA). Like every website, its hosting receives your IP address and standard request information to serve pages and protect the site from abuse. I keep no separate log archive.

Aggregate counts at the edge. The site records that a page was viewed and that a few links were clicked (for example the contact button, the email address, LinkedIn), and a small Cloudflare Web Analytics script reports page-load timing and page views to Cloudflare. All of this is kept as totals. It sets no cookies and carries no identifier for you, which is why it runs without asking.

Google Analytics, only if you allow it. When you first visit, a notice asks whether Google Analytics may run. If you decline, or make no choice, it is never loaded and Google receives nothing from your visit. If you allow it, Google Analytics 4 records which pages you view, when, roughly where you are (country or city), and basic device details such as screen size and language. Google gives your browser a random identifier so it can tell one visit from another; it is not your name, and I never combine it with anything you send me. The two cookies it sets last up to two years; you can change your choice at any time using “Cookie choices” in the footer. I have set the property to keep visitor-level data for two months, the shortest period the tool allows, with Google Signals and advertising features off. This site runs no advertising or marketing cookies.

The contact form. If you write to me through the form, your name, email address and message are sent to Formspree, Inc. (USA), which delivers them to contact@burson.email. Formspree also receives your IP address and standard request information as part of processing the submission. If you tick the box, a copy is sent to the address you entered. Nothing you type in the form is ever sent to Google Analytics.

How long I keep it

Messages you send me are kept for as long as our conversation is useful and deleted within 24 months of the last contact. Analytics data is kept by Google for two months, after which only aggregate reports remain. Technical data is held by Cloudflare under its own retention schedule.

Your choices and rights

You can decline analytics, withdraw a previous choice from the footer, and ask me at any time what I hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Email contact@burson.email. I do not sell personal data and do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

Changes

If the way this site handles data changes, this page changes with it, and the notice will ask for your choice again.
